Truth be told, 2020 is going to be a game changer for digital marketing professionals. Many existing techniques and tactics will become obsolete and new approaches will emerge. In simple words, videos are the future. But are marketers leveraging this content type to achieve their objectives or are they still stuck with the conventional method of using a mix of various content types? In this article, we will underscore the importance of videos in the digital realm and how valuable videos are for a brand/company.
A study by Hubspot in 2018 revealed that 54% of consumers prefer to see videos from a brand or business they support. Whereas, around 90% of marketers believe that video is the most important marketing tool. Videos generally appeal to our auditory and visual senses and effectively engage the audience. Since, we humans are a visual species, the room to use a combination of various elements like conversation, graphics, text, music, photographs, and/or characters to deliver the message has made videos extremely popular than any other content type. If content is one true king, then video is its crown. Any brand undermining or denying the importance of videos in its digital marketing strategy is truly living in a fool’s paradise.
Videos help deliver messages more effectively while also striking an emotional chord through visual and auditory storytelling elements. And with increasing penetration of smartphones and other portable smart devices, videos are now being enjoyed by people all the time. A prediction by Cisco states that by 2022, online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic. Even Mark Zuckerberg is of the opinion that videos are the future of digital marketing as its consumption is growing exponentially. A Facebook executive even went on to claim that by the end of 2021, Facebook will become all video. But honestly, we marketers don’t agree with it, because photographs and text-based posts have their own importance.
